Lately I’ve been working on trying to make a copy of an existing website. It has been quite the challenge for my CSS skills. But of course that wasn’t enough for me, I had to try and use more hooks as well. I’ve been hearing that people really liked using them and thought it was time to take a closer look at them.

When I think of the times I used hooks before this project, I remember that I would use them for some Bootstrap modals and possibly when I used the useHistory function in my projects. …

As I recently put up a portfolio website, I believed it was time to start publishing more apps. When I thought of things I would want to show off, I thought of my poetry site. Then remembered that would be a bit embarrassing. Instead I decided to work on a project I started that have not finished. A project I couldn’t be embarrassed about.

As the picture suggests I am making this app to make that if I ever considering bringing one of those little creatures with me on my journey, that it is a well thought-out decision. …

I noticed I was working on a lot of projects, some I’d even say were finished. Not a single one published, I believed that needed to be changed. I made a portfolio website, so I can test out building a site. I figured a site without a backend would be a nice way to start.

My site doesn’t have a backend because it did not seem necessary. I couldn’t think of many projects that I would want to show on my page, nor did I think it was important to have too many. Didn’t want it to feel bloated. My…

Last time I was talking about how I was working on a tutorial to make a game, and how I was experiencing hiccups, but more importantly picking up some more tips. Well I continued with the tutorial and experienced some more difficulties. There was a problem where the html file I made wasn’t showing the code. It was opening just fine, I could see my black box in the browser. This was leading me to think this is one of the things that lead to the rise of the code editor.

So I did what I thought I should do…

I’ve realized that my brain has been rewired since learning to code a little. I open up an app on my phone and think “wow, they used modals within modals nice.” Now thinking about how these apps are made based on what I experience as a user makes me appreciate the app even more. So I found a tutorial on how to make a game like Pong.

It is always the little things that keep an app from functioning. I was supposed to be excited about seeing a giant black void on my page, instead I got a giant white…

I’ve probably been telling you how I have been working on this game for a bit now. It looks like it might finally be done. A friend played a huge part in helping me getting this far. I am still new to programming so my chances to have someone help with coding like this has not been many. Because of this help I am nearly there.

I feel I was a bit impatient about the creation of this app. I guess I should say I was too excited about making this game. It is supposed to be fun, a good…

As I’ve been working on some more apps I’ve been starting to notice that I need to be reminded about which type of function to use. The ever effective compiler error. The computer not knowing what “this” is and me assuming I knew what this was. Always a good recipe for disaster. I realize the mistake right away after seeing the error message, but it would be nice to not see the error message in the first place.

Usually when I make these apps I have some functional components and class components. I end up writing a function correctly for…

I might have mentioned that I have worked on some apps. Nothing too fancy yet, but I am proud of them. There is one app in particular that I have to look back on now, it was a simple game review app. I stopped working on it because it was living up to my expectations, and it wasn’t broken. It was functional but it wasn’t done correctly?

I learned this by working on a different project, that game I keep talking about. Now without going into too many details of the game, the person helping me was asking why I…

My Toolbox

I’ve been using react for what I think to be a decent amount of time now. All of my latest projects were definitely in react, that got me wondering about what tools I’ve been using to make these apps. Am I using the same tools to get better practice with them or am I already starting to get set in my ways? I feel like one of those is bad, so let us look at some features and look at how I’ve been doing it to determine what I’ve been doing.

After looking at SVG’s I became a bit more interested in CSS. When you think about all the gears that turn to make a simple app, you understand that programming is beautiful. When you start learning CSS, you understand how hard it is to make something look beautiful. As I’m slowly getting around to making that game, I wanted to know about 3-D models.
